These are not your average relationships. They come with their own unique set of challenges. There is life beyond finding the ‘one’ and trust us when we tell you, the endgame weighs heavy on men who are in service. So, what are men looking for?

Loyalty
This one should come as a surprise to no one. Given how long they are stuck in the field, service personnel will likely want someone who can make them feel secure and loved. Whether their partner will still be around when they return home should be the last thing on their mind.

Patience
Nothing can test a relationship like distance does. Add a battlefield to the mix and you’re in for a rollercoaster. Patience is key to making things work and it’s one of the most important qualities that guys look for.

Maturity
There are big demons to slay in the battlefield and a partner who understands this is someone a military man will keep around for life.

Relatability
Military men, like all other men, don’t have a specific ‘type’. Each one has his own preferences, likes and dislikes. So if you click then you click.

While it helps to know what sort of partners count as the right one for military men, you also need to keep in mind some qualities that will send them screaming into the opposite direction.

Clingy
You won’t be the glue that holds things together, that’s for sure. Military personnel can often land in situations where they cannot dictate how often or when they can communicate with loved ones. If you’re acting like the world has ended when this happens, your relationship is likely going to end too.

Self-centered
It’s not easy to relate to what’s happening in a warzone, but partners that are unable to talk about anything but themselves are not only unattractive but also push the relationship into a ditch. Take an interest into what your man is telling you so that he feels heard.

Zero planning or over planning
Both are bad and we’ll tell you how. When he comes home do you have no idea how you’re going to make the most of your time? If the answer is yes, you’re not valuing time enough. Ironically, the opposite doesn’t work either. Do you have every second of his day mapped out already? You’re going to suffocate him. The key is to communicate with each other to come up with a healthy balance so you can make the most of the time you have.
