Help for Heroes is the grateful recipient of £1,500 thanks to a cake sale that took place in a Worksop shopping centre.

A group of volunteers teamed up with local army cadets to sell baked goods at the Priory Shopping Centre last Saturday (April 26th), reports the Worksop Guardian.

Tony Eaton, regional coordinator at Help for Heroes, said a large number of cakes, buns, jams and biscuits were made by kind-hearted locals.

"They all sold very quick – so it's a good job we had loads more cakes brought in throughout the day by the very generous Bassetlaw public," he added.

Another highlight of the day was the presence of World War II veteran Ken Beard, 92, who helped to sell cakes with his partner Edna.

Mr Eaton noted that members of the public loved talking to a veteran of the conflict about his experiences.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801716873-ADNFCR
