It’s a public appearance that wasn’t expected, but it’s one no one will have an objection to. After many weeks of avoiding public gathering, the Queen herself was present to Knight Captain Tom at Windsor Castle. The ceremony took place outdoors.

The 100-year-old World War II veteran earlier made history by raising over £32 million for the NHS. He walked a 100 laps in his garden, and in doing so did more to help fight the current pandemic than most. He had started out with a simple goal of £1,000 but raised so much more. He has become an inspiration to many in these trying times.

The newly Knighted veteran has captured the hearts of the people with his charm and dedication. He has put the soldier in his heart to work to reach new feats, even at this age. Our favourite Knight was in an upbeat mood during the ceremony, even joking “if I kneel down, I’ll never get up again, but I’m sure it’ll go well, as she’s done it before”.

Even though there was doubt that the Queen would resurface, given the threat Covid-19 poses, she chose to make this an exception. Everyone can agree that this was a welcome decision.

Here’s to Sir Tom, who has shown us the way of light in these difficult times.
