With Valentine's Day just around the corner, single soldiers may want to turn their attention to online dating to make sure they have a special someone in their lives when the celebration comes around.

According to the Economist, the period between Christmas and February 14th is a busy one for internet courtship sites.

The publication noted the festive period can often be a lonely time for the lovelorn, as happy couples appear all loved-up at yuletide and New Year bashes.

It said of the stretch directly after Christmas: "For online dating agencies, it is a golden opportunity, as people who have spent the holidays ruminating over unsatisfactory or non-existent love lives log on in their thousands, hoping to find romance."

Much of the stigma associated with looking for love on the web has now been shedded, the source pointed out.

In a recent article for ADI News, Mark Whysall suggested delving into the world of online dating could be popular among many singletons considering their New Year resolutions.
