Brave troops wounded in battle are to benefit from a festive shindig as money raised at the get-together is being donated to Help for Heroes.
According to Chelmsford Weekly News, the Essex Police Band has held its annual Christmas Cracker Concert in Colchester, with more than 750 spectators in attendance.
The event included performances from Colchester and District Pipes and Drums, as well as the choir and band from St Helena School.
It took place at Charter Hall and sergeant Steve Scott-Haynes – one of the spectacle's organisers – said the music went down really well with those watching.
He noted: "They really got people moving and they were clapping and singing along, while the carols were well received, as usual."
Around £3,000 is expected to have been raised by the event, which will add to the £130,000 or so that the Essex Police Band has already generated for Help for Heroes.
The Whitby Gazette recently reported Harry's Bar on Pier Road in Whitby is raffling off a Christmas hamper to raise cash for the charity.
