Theatre lovers attending one venue in West Sussex have shown the extent of their generosity by raising almost £1,500 for charity.

Audiences at Birdsong, which was shown at The Hawth in Crawley between April 24th and 27th, dug deep to leave behind £1,457.96, reports Sussex Living.

Birdsong is the tale of a romance set against the backdrop of the violence and destruction of the Somme and those in attendance were obviously compelled to leave money.

All of the cash raised at the theatre over the four days in question will be sent to Help for Heroes, which is known for helping and treating injured and wounded servicemen.

The charity added it is extremely grateful for the money donated by theatre goers, while The Hawth also offered its own thanks.

Birdsong was put on by Parkwood Theatres and Birdsong Productions, both of which decided to help the charity via a collection.
