Kind-hearted residents of Swindon will today (April 23rd) show just how appreciative they are of the efforts of members of the armed forces currently serving on the frontline of war-torn countries.
With today being St George’s Day it is undoubtedly a time for celebration and so people living in Swindon have decided to have some fun in honour of England’s patron saint while raising money for the Help for Heroes charity, the Swindon Advertiser reports.
From 14:00 BST to midnight today charitable folk will be taking part in a whole host of fun activities including face painting, a bouncy castle and barbeque at the County Ground Hotel, with all proceeds being donated to the charity.
Mona Humphreys of the Swindon for St George group says: "As the town is so closely linked to Wootton Bassett we witness first hand via television and radio the tragedy of many victims who lost their lives for the sake of our country."
Chester First recently reported that a charity dinner in Chester raised a fantastic £3,700 for Help for Heroes, which will go towards assisting wounded servicemen and women.
