Stressed soldiers ‘make odd sexual decisions’

Stressed soldiers may want to try and chill out a little bit, after new research revealed that men who are feeling tense can be seen to make odd sexual decisions.

The study, by scientists at the University of Trier and published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, may also lay some credence to the age-old saying ‘opposites attract’.

While previous research of this nature has revealed that loved-up soldiers and their partners tend to have similar facial characteristics, The Times reports that the new study shows that when men are put under pressure they prefer the look of women who are entirely different to them.

"Our study is the first to show that stress influences human mating preferences, and provides further support for the influence of stress on mate choice and sexual behaviour," said Johanna Lass-Hennemann, the psychobiologist who led the research.

It could be that stressed soldiers opt for different women to their usual type but many will still be concentrating on one area of the body in particular – a recent survey by VanInsurance.co.uk revealed that 32 per cent of males think the bum is the most attractive part of a woman’s body.
