Most of the songs written to thank soldiers for their bravery overseas are depressing numbers, so one songwriter has decided to do something about it.
Rob Allen has penned Men of Cymru, a rock-inspired track in tribute to the Welsh Guards, with all profits donated to the guards’ Afghan Appeal, WalesOnline.co.uk reports.
The track is sung to the tune of Men of Harlech and Allen told the news provider that it’s about time somebody came up with a happy song to say thank you to the brave servicemen and women.
"Every song that comes out for soldiers is downbeat. This is more like a rock song, more upbeat. We thought we would really go for it," he said.
Allen isn’t the only one who’s been trying to raise money to support soldiers.
Ellie Butcher, whose husband Matthew is a sergeant in the second battalion of The Rifles, recently launched a T-shirt production line to generate a few quid, the Star reported.
