The family and friends of a brave soldier who died in Afghanistan have made the largest single donation to the Help for Heroes charity ever, it has been reported.

Daniel Hume, a rifleman serving with the 4th Battalion The Rifles, was killed while on foot patrol in Helmand Province in July, and his family wanted to help other troops still fighting there, according to the Maidenhead Advertiser.

To ensure his death wasn’t in vain, his closest people raised and donated a whopping £92,000 to the charity, which is there to help soldiers who have been wounded in conflict.

The fundraising drive was led by his proud parents, who sold yellow Dan Bands in local schools.

His dad recently finished fourth in a sailing race across the Atlantic from the Canary Islands to St Lucia, the newspaper added.

In other news, Mick and Jackie Bray, who run The Malt Shovel and The Angel in Baildon, plan to start another year of fundraising to raise cash for Help for Heroes, the Telegraph and Argus reported.
