Musician Sinead O'Connor is to marry a man she met through the internet.

The singer – who shot to fame with the Prince-penned track Nothing Compares 2 U – is tying the knot with Barry Herridge in what has been described as a "proper rock 'n' roll wedding".

She told the Irish Independent it has always been her "dream" to say her nuptials in the Nevada desert location.

The couple met after O'Connor took to the web to declare she was looking for a man and she posted a list of requirements on her blog.

Mr Herridge – who is a 38-year-old therapist – responded to her ad by writing a lovely email that captured her heart.

It will be a double celebration for O'Connor as she is also turning 45.

The marriage could highlight how online dating can be a successful building block for long-term relationships and so singletons may want to try it.
