Servicemen complete 24-hour race for armed forces charity

Two serving army officers took part in the Britcar 24-hour to raise money for armed forces charities.

Major James Cameron and Brigadier Mike Hickson drove a Mazda MX-5 during the endurance challenge, which is the only day-long race for GT and Saloon cars in the UK.

According to the Star, Major Cameron was inspired to collect cash after visiting the Help for Heroes base in Tidworth.

"We desperately wanted to do something and being petrolheads decided on motorsports so went to Mazda and they've been phenomenally helpful," he added.

TV presenter and racer Tony Jardine and former Royal Signals Sergeant Will Browning made up the rest of the team.

Major Cameron continued by saying the response they have got from the public has been "tremendous".

This is the sixth year that the Britcar 24-hour contest has been held and the class one event was won by the Eclipse Motorsport team, with Michael McInerney leading them home.
