Schoolboy hero raises cash for charity

Even the youngest people in the country can do their bit for Help for Heroes, as one schoolboy in Liverpool has shown.

Ian Williams of Maghull got in touch with the North Liverpool Star newspaper recently to tell the publication all about the work of young Ellis Caldwell, a year five pupil at Stockbridge Village Primary School.

He explained that he had been invited to the school around the time of Remembrance Day and was struck by the boy, who described himself as "army mad" and keen to help soldiers.

"And what did this enterprising little fellow do? Well, along with his cousin and a couple of friends, they made a Help for Heroes sign, stuck it on the field near where he lives and raised £26," Mr Williams explained.

While it might be a relatively small sum, he said he was so touched by the boy's efforts that it felt like £26,000.
