A former armed forces employee has been recognised for his charitable efforts after raising thousands of pounds for the Royal British Legion (RBL).

Darren Jaye, who collected £17,025 for the worthy cause, was rewarded with a hamper from printer equipment retailer Cartridge World thanks to a nomination by members of the Stourport community, reports the Kidderminster Shuttle.

The fundraiser organised several events including raffles, collections for the poppy appeal and hosting activity evenings as part of his efforts to encourage people to donate to the charity.

And, in a surprising twist, Mr Jaye even vowed to utilise his prize in a special draw to collect even more money for the RBL.

Justin Birch from the Bromsgrove Cartridge World store told the news provider his dedication to collecting funds is "really inspiring", while adding his decision to raffle off the hamper is an indication of his selflessness.

He added: "It was a pleasure to say thank you and give something back to someone who clearly dedicates their time to helping others."
