People should give up smoking if they want to find love

Singletons looking for love would be well advised to give up smoking.

This is because research by the Department of Health has found that the pastime is seen as a turn off by many.

Among 18 to 24 year olds, 76 per cent said smoking makes people less attractive, while 74 per cent would not kiss someone who has just had a cigarette.

In terms of online dating sites, an average of 74 per cent of individuals have indicated an unwillingness to meet up with anyone who smokes.

Sarah Beeny, presenter of Channel 4's Property Ladder and Help! My House Is Falling Down – stated: "It does clearly influence a person's decision to date you. It's particularly obvious that non-smokers find it harder to live with a smoker."

Some 47 per cent of those questioned said they would think twice about embarking on a relationship with someone who lit up.
