A paramedic will complete a mountain trek in Peru to raise cash for Help for Heroes (H4H).

Tom Rose is targeting an arduous 42-km hike over six days, which will finish when he makes it to the Inca city of Machu Picchu, the Birmingham Mail reports.

The 31-year-old has chosen to collect cash for the third sector organisation because it has helped some of his friends in the past.

He has set himself a target of £3,500 and has so far collected £400.

"I've done quite a bit of travelling to faraway places but I've never done a trek before so I need to start training," Mr Rose observed.

He was compelled to raise money for the good cause after seeing "how important" the support that H4H provides is to ex-servicemen and women.

Feel Good Health and Fitness Centre has given Mr Rose a six-month membership for free in order to help him get fit for the excursion.
