A woman is organising a motorcycle ride through Royal Wootton Bassett to raise money for armed forces charities.

Julia Stevenson is hoping to get 10,000 bikers to take to the road for the special journey on March 18th, the News Shopper reports.

With RAF Lyneham – which was the base of the UK's military air transport operations from 1967 until 2011 – closing this year, it represents the last chance for the Ride of Respect to take place.

Ms Stevenson observed: "I think we need to do something for these young people because they are going to need help for the rest of their lives."

This will be the third consecutive year she has held the event and so far has collected over £300,000, with ten armed forces charities benefitting from funding as a result.

Ms Stevenson added in previous runs there has not been one dry eye among the bikers.
