Single soldiers might consider online dating as a way to meet someone new and this method is proving increasingly popular.
According to figures from the Scotsman, two-thirds of singletons in the UK have tried internet dating.
Some 69 per cent of first dates have been arranged via the web, while 15 per cent of married people met their partner online, the news source notes.
This is largely due to a lack of stigma involved with the dating option, as the article states it was previously subject to stereotypes that could have put people off clicking away to find their match.
These days those beliefs have largely disappeared, which could explain how online dating as an industry has come to be worth approximately £2.5 billion worldwide.
It is even being used as inspiration for writers, with playwright Ruby Miller recently telling the Islington Gazette she has created a theatre production after getting the idea from many friends who have sampled internet matchmaking sites.
