Single soldiers might consider heading online to meet penpals or partners, as the taboo surrounding internet dating no longer exists for many.
MetroXpress newspaper reports on a study from Oxford University, which found more than one-in-four Danish couples that met between 1997 and 2010 found each other via this platform, according to the Copenhagen Post.
Researcher at the University of Copenhagen Charlie Breindahl is quoted as saying: "We have started accepting online dating because the internet has become such a significant part of our social lives."
While people can find whether or not they get on with a person via the web, it is possible to gain a good understanding of physical attraction once the two parties meet in person.
Dating sites are an ideal way "to sort out the ones with no potential", in order to discover the best matches, Mr Breindahl adds.
And it could also bring soulmates together, as Kval.com recently revealed Bud Izen and Diane Foushee met on the web and believe they have met their lifetime partner.
