Online dating is the inspiration behind a number of new plays going on show at the Denver Performing Arts Complex in the US.

The Denver Post looks at a growing trend for comedies, dramas and other live performances that are based entirely around relationships, with internet dating a particularly popular inspiration.

Randy Weeks, the venue's president, says he is not surprised by the trend, because it has been a popular subject matter for thousands of years.

"Finding someone is what life is all about … That's what writers are writing about. Songs. Plays. Movies. Wanting to find love is really the one thing that everyone has in common," he claims.

Co-curator Emily Tarquin says the internet is speeding up the process of allowing couples to meet and the platform is an interesting topic for many writers.

The Daily Comte recently reported on former singleton Heather Thomas, who signed up to a matchmaking website little over a year ago and is now planning her wedding.
