Northamptonshire Steelbacks captain Alex Wakely has carried out a huge sale of some of his most treasured memorabilia from his career in order to raise money for Help for Heroes.

The batsman has revealed he has generated £2,795 for the good cause after a week-long sale that he held through Twitter, reports the Northampton Herald & Post.

He explained that he is feeling "very proud" at the moment after managing to raise a significant sum in exchange for some eye-catching items that he has attained over his years in the game.

For instance, Wakely sold his 20/20 winners medal and David Wiley's signed 20/20 finals cap, which were snapped up by keen collectors and fans.

"After the successful Help for Heroes vs. Northants Disability match held here at the County Ground last season and a humbling experience visiting the Help for Heroes centre at Tedworth House with Midders, I just thought it would be a good idea to keep fundraising for Help For Heroes," Wakely explained.

He went on to describe Help for Heroes as an "amazing cause" and one that he will continue to support in the long run. Indeed, he is already planning to host another sale of prized cricket possessions next year.

Over the course of the week, Wakely announced each morning that he would be selling a particular item and waited for bids to roll in throughout the day.

People had to place their bids by 6pm and the winner was notified by a retweet from the player later that evening.

Having already made a visit to Tedworth House, there was no doubt which charity Wakely was going to support having agreed to such a scheme.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801691951-ADNFCR
