A mum who lost her son in Afghanistan is determined to support other boys and girls serving their country by demanding that they are paid more.
Sarah Evans, 43, told the Daily Mirror that she supports the Army and what it is doing in Afghanistan, however, she says they deserve more money for what they do and that she won’t rest until they get it.
She recently confronted Armed Forces minister Bill Rammell live on TV’s Question Time in Wootton Bassett, grilling him as to why troops don’t earn more for the dangerous work they do.
"I believe they should not pay income tax while fighting abroad and surely their life insurance needs to be reimbursed when they are in a war zone. After all, it is the government which is putting their lives at risk," she told the newspaper.
Ms Evans added that it isn’t on that soldiers have to worry about whether their families can afford the bills back home and that things need to change.
Oxfordshire County Council, the Royal Logistic Corps and Abingdon and Witney College have come together to offer families of serving troops free skills training, which could help them get back into work, according to the Oxford Mail.
