Military tattoo held to raise money for charity

A military tattoo featuring music from the First World War is to take place in Stoke to raise money for the veterans of today.

The event, which will include performances by the Military Wives Choir and the Band of the Mercian Regiment, will also mark the First World War centenary by featuring songs from the era, the Stoke Sentinel reports.

Due to take place on Saturday, May 10th at the Kings Hall in Stoke, the tattoo will help to raise money for ABF The Soldiers' Charity.

Event coordinator Mike Frewer, from Lask Edge, said: "Events like this are absolutely critical for raising funds. We are trying to bridge a funding gap as north Staffordshire is one of the country’s major army recruiting areas."

He added that he hopes the upcoming event will be a record-breaker as more and more people have been attending each year.

In 2013, the West Midlands branch of ABF The Soldiers' Charity awarded grants totalling £31,000 to 50 veterans and around £12,000 to ten serving soldiers from Staffordshire.
