How far would you go to test your other half’s feelings for you? Two women in China could have paid the ultimate price for love when they lept into a river to see which of them their fancyman would save.

Wu Hsia’s girlfriend and ex-partner both jumped into a river in eastern China’s Zhejiang province to test which of them he loved the most.

Mr Hsia arranged a meet up with his current girlfriend Rong Tsao and his former long-term love Jun Tang because he was sick of being nagged from both sides.

He has broken up with Ms Tang, 20, after meeting Ms Tsao, 22 – but the former was not exactly happy with this arrangement and constantly harangued him to get back with her.

Wu said: "I was sick of being nagged from both sides.

"Rong was moaning about Jun and Jun was moaning about her and it all got too much."

However, when the trio arrived at the meeting place, things quickly escalated into a full on emergency.

A police spokesperson explained that the two women began arguing and Wu’s ex-girlfriend felt insulted by a comment his new love interest made. She then decided to jump into the river and called out to her ex to save her.

"The new girlfriend, fearing that he might indeed jump in to save his ex-lover, then jumped in as well and both of them began calling for him to rescue them from drowning,” the spokesperson continued.

So how did Wu resolve this lovers’ spat?

Well, he jumped into the water to save his current girlfriend, pulled her out and took her to hospital so doctors could look at her minor injuries.

However, he did not forget about his ex-girlfriend altogether! Indeed, on the way to hospital with his current squeeze, Wu rang his brother and told him to go to the river and save his ex-girlfriend.

Wu’s bother then rang the fire brigade who got to the scene and helped Jun out of the water.

A rescue worker said: "She was taken to hospital but was released soon after without any major injuries."
