Man spends world record £8.4k on sheepdog

How much would you be willing to spend on a sheep dog?

These canines provide a valuable service for farmers, as they help them to keep their sheep in order.

However, an 18-month-old black and white bitch has just been purchased for £8,400 – making her the world's most expensive sheep dog.

The previous record for a pooch of this kind had been £6,300.

Champion breeder Shaun Richards admitted he was shocked by the final price for Marchup Midge, adding: "She exceeded all expectations. When the money kept going go up and up I was speechless. She'll go into the sheepdog trial world after this, where she will do extremely well."

If you ask me, new owner Eddie Thornalley must be barking mad, but he clearly sees something very good in the animal.

Marchup Midge comes from good stock though, as her sister was bought for £5,250 earlier this year.
