Man returns to find car in canal

A man was expecting a stress-free afternoon when he parked his car and headed for a pub lunch with his girlfriend recently.

But when he returned, he found his Toyota Avensis had rolled down the hill on which it was parked and plunged into a nearby canal.

Tomos Williams discovered his motor almost entirely submerged with only its roof poking out above the surface of the water.

It marked the end of a particularly bad week for the Welshman, who had earlier been told he could lose his job.

"Someone came in and asked if I was the owner of a silver Toyota. They said it had rolled into the canal – it sort of ruined my day," Mr Williams explained.

It is believed that the handbrake on the car failed, leading to it rolling down the hill where it had been parked.
