Plenty of TV adventure shows have focused on the quest for gold.
However, one man from Australia has hit the jackpot in real life after he discovered a 5.5 kg gold nugget worth up to $300,000 (£189,000).
The amatuer prospector, who has chosen not to reveal his identity, found the nugget – which is believed to be one of the biggest finds in the area – while out searching in Ballarat, Victoria.
Local gold dealer Cordell Kent said: "He thought he had detected the bonnet of a car when he saw a glint of gold."
Mr Kent admitted the man could not believe his luck, especially as he has only made small gold discoveries in the past.
It just goes to show how important it is for people to stay positive and keep on trying their luck, as they never know when they might hit the jackpot.
