Airplanes are complex constructions and so you would imagine that building your own would be a very difficult task.
However, one aeronautic fanatic is in the process of assembling a feasible flying device made only from scrap metal.
Li Jingchun from Changbai, northern China, has only spent £4,000 and two years on getting the right materials to make the vehicle as he seeks to achieve a life-long ambition.
"It is my dream to fly a plane as a pilot with passengers in it. I'll get there somehow no matter what it takes," Mr Jingchun remarked.
Obviously the inside of the plane is quite primitive, so I don't think he'll be taking any passengers up in the air anytime soon, but it is still a great feat of engineering.
I wonder what else people will be able to make from scrap metal, possibly a helicopter or maybe a high-performance sports car.
