Many women suffer from a lack of confidence on nights out on the town, even though they have often spent hours ensuring they look their best.
New research by New Look has found the most common worries for girls include their friends looking better than them, their wobbly bits showing and whether their outfit is too skimpy.
As a result, almost one in four females in the UK endures a self-confidence crisis on a night out that should really be an enjoyable highlight of their week.
A spokesman for New Look explained: "Most women have moments where they struggle with their body confidence, whether it's for one night or days on end. But it's worrying to think that so many women feel that way on a night out with some of their closest friends."
Other occasions on which ladies often feel incredibly self-conscious are when they visit the beach, are at a swimming pool or even while in the bedroom.
The New Look representative added that it is "shocking" for so many women to have a lack of confidence in front of their partners.
With insecurity existing among British girls, it is no surprise many do not feel they can approach a man on a night out and instead rely on online dating sites to find love. It is therefore important that male users of dating sites say all the right things to make their prospective partner feel at ease and boost their confidence.
Many ladies feel self-conscious on a date – in fact, this made it into New Look's list of the top ten least confident situations for women – so paying her compliments is a wise policy for any man.
And this tactic can begin much earlier, even during opening messages on online dating sites, where guys should not be afraid to point out what they already love about the girl they are chatting to.
