An inspirational nine-year-old – who lost both her legs to meningitis seven years ago – has won an award for her fundraising efforts.
Lydia Cross has helped to raise an astonishing £14,000 for the Help for Heroes charity by taking part in a sponsored swim and for her labours she was presented with a Rotary Young Citizen Award on Saturday (April 17th), the North Devon Gazette reports.
With former Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq presenting the award, Lydia said: "I wanted to raise money for the soldiers because I know if I do they will be able to get better things to help them."
But the youngster’s fundraising efforts are not ending there. After meeting the Queen in May Lydia’s entire family will be climbing Pen Y Fan – the highest mountain in Wales – to raise more money for Help for Heroes.
A group of ‘swags’ – service wives and girlfriends – recently raised £26,000 for the charity by producing a cheeky naked calendar, the Daily Mail reports.
