The crew of a royal navy warship managed to raise thousands of pounds for the Help for Heroes charity when they visited the city it is named after.
Crew members from HMS St Albans visited the city in Hertfordshire last Friday Evening (October 15th) and managed to collect a total of £1,312, the Hertfordshire Advertiser reports.
Following this, the sailors sold supporter wristbands in the streets the following day, before being guests at St Albans City Football Club's home game and spending the evening touring more pubs, raising the total collected to £3,317.
As well as raising awareness about the charity, the amount collected was higher than a similar exercise last year.
Earlier this week, the Hillingdon and Uxbridge Times revealed how a spinathlon will be held to raise £500 for Help for Heroes.
The nine-hour event comprises 12 fitness classes at Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex, each lasting for 45 minutes.
