Himalayan hike for hero troops

A dad from Stockton is to traverse the Himalayas in an effort to raise funds for troops injured while serving on the frontline.

Kevin Baker, deputy governor of Kirklevington Grange prison, is heading off to the mountain range in support of the Help for Heroes charity, the Gazette Live reports.

The hiker has collected more than £8,000 in sponsorship money, beating his initial target of £4,500.

He said: "I'm extremely grateful for all the people who have donated so far and the organisations, businesses and even the prisoners have contributed."

The dad of four – who has been training for the challenge for a year – said he would love the total to reach £10,000, as it would be a great achievement that underlines the generosity of the people of Teesside.

Account manager at construction company Wilmott Dixon Nic Clark is to try his hand at being a rock star at the Construction Rocks festival in an attempt to generate funds for Help for Heroes, the Surrey Comet reported.
