Military charity Help for Heroes (H4H) has benefited to the tune of more than £2,000 after a group of metal detecting enthusiasts went out of their way to help.

The Gazette and Herald has told how a group scoured the land in Marlborough to find valuable artefacts and objects.

For the last year, members of the Wessex Metal Detecting Club have been on the lookout for buried treasure and it has now been sold to raise funds for the charity.

Malcolm Burns, portfolio manager of the Crown Estate where the digs have taken place, said: "We were extremely happy to support the club over the past year. I would like to congratulate them on raising such a substantial sum for charity."

The £2,000 pot was handed over to H4H earlier this month and Bryn Parry, chief executive officer and co-founder of the charity, said the metal detecting had been a "clever idea".ADNFCR-2867-ID-801546958-ADNFCR
