A granny from Perth, Scotland, has completed a skydive to raise money for two armed forces charities.

Elaine Fairlie collected some £1,500 for Help for Heroes and the British Limbless Ex-Service Men's Association (BLESMA) thanks to the jump, the Perthshire Advertiser reports.

The event was organised by her son John Willans, who is a Royal Engineers corporal and experienced skydiver.

Ms Fairlie observed there were 14 people in the plane that climbed up to 14,000 feet so she could do her jump.

The grandmother of six stated: "We were in free fall for only 45 seconds but it felt like forever before the chute finally opened. It was an absolutely fantastic experience and the views were just brilliant."

She decided to take on the challenge after her son showed her some footage of a free fall.

BLESMA seeks to help current and ex-servicemen and women who have been injured in the line of duty and looks to raise £2 million a year.
