A firefighter from Tyneside has scaled Everest in an attempt to raise money for brave soldiers injured in battle.
Brian Tinnion climbed 5,545 metres to the mountain's Base Camp – and generated £26,000 for Help for Heroes in the process, Chronicle Live reports.
The former marine, who has been a member of the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service for 25 years, said the challenge was difficult but ultimately enjoyable.
He explained: "When I got to the camp I was overcome emotionally. It was such a tremendous achievement getting there."
Mr Tinnion was part of a group of 30 individuals – of which only three were not affected by altitude sickness.
He revealed he experienced a couple of headaches but added some people on the expedition were seriously ill.
Busy Bees nursery schools recently donated £10,000 to Help for Heroes after staff and children took part in a fun-filled fundraising week.
