A number of military junior doctors have come together to complete a marathon in Lapland in a bid to raise money for Combat Stress.
The group from Devon was made up of Flt Lt Michael Thompson, Surgeon Lt Alex Bamford and Capt George Graham, who managed to raise £6,000 for the good cause as a result of their efforts, reports the BBC.
They covered a total of 150 km in the Rovaniemi 150 ultra-marathon in northern Finland, dragging all their kit on a sledge behind them.
Flt Lt Thompson explained there were moments throughout the challenge where the junior doctors felt it was simply impossible, but they went on to finish.
"The vast distances, prolonged darkness and hostile environment were to be expected, but I don't think any of us could have anticipated the added burden of such individual isolation," he stated.
Lt Bamford finished the race in second place in a time of 25 hours and 55 minutes, while his colleagues were joint sixth with a time of 34 hours and 20 minutes.
