Soldiers who have turned to online dating websites in the hope of finding love have been warned by one expert to avoid exaggerating the truth.

"If you tell lies about your age, your weight and so on, then it’s only going to be embarrassing when you meet the person face-to-face," internet dating guru Anita Maree told the Mosman Daily News.

She added that soldiers may be pleased to hear that nowadays online dating no longer has a desperate stigma attached to it, as many people are so busy that it can be hard to find the time to go out and meet a potential partner.

But Ms Maree is not the first person to advise internet daters against inflating their online personalities.

Frances Amaroux, dating guru and counsellor for lovecoaching.com, recently stressed that omitting certain information and exaggerating the truth on internet dating profiles will only set people up for a fall when they finally meet the object of their affection.
