Billionaire sheikh makes his mark on desert

If you had billions of pounds to spare, what would you spend the money on?

Once you'd finished splashing out on some flash cars, 007-style gadgets and a swish pad there'd probably still be a few billion to spare.

So it's easy to see why one super-rich man decided to treat himself to a rather unusual – and very vain – gift, the Sun reports.

Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan from Abu Dhabi has just completed a project where his name was written across a desert in such large print that it can be seen from space.

The word Hamad is scrawled in capital letters that measure over three km across and one km each in height.

And the sheikh's £14 billion fortune has been spent on other similarly frivolous purchases, such as seven Mercedes 500 SELs that are painted in different colours of the rainbows and sit amongst his total collection of over 300 cars.

Perhaps Colin and Christine Weir from Scotland might take some tips from him, as they recently won the Euromillions jackpot worth £161 million.
