People who have turned to online dating sites in a bid to find love have been warned they should look out for potentially bogus profiles.
New figures from SeekingArrangement.com show one in ten profiles is fake, with the site forced to delete more than 200 accounts each day.
Chief executive officer Brandon Wade told the Daily News: "We're not talking about lying about your age or weight. We're talking about scammers who are trying to take your money."
With this in mind, people should always do as much as they can to ensure who they are talking to is genuinely looking for love in the same way as them.
Online dating sites can work wonders and put individuals who would otherwise have never met in touch with each other, but as with any online phenomenon, it is wise to be aware of the risks as the consequences can be serious.
