A team of six people will try to row across the Atlantic Ocean in under 30 days.
The men are taking part in the Oceanus Rowing speed challenge and will raise money for Help for Heroes (H4H) as part of the challenge, the Craven Herald reports.
Simon Chalk, who is skippering the outfit, has already completed the 3,000-mile course five times, but he is hoping to get into the record books by doing it in less than 32 days – the current best mark.
"It is a very sought-after record in ocean rowing terms, so if you are going to row the Atlantic you might as well aim high," he added.
Mr Chalk is confident the lightweight boat is capable of helping them to achieve their goal.
All of the crew has spent a few weeks training in Gran Canaria ahead of the attempt, which will kick off from Barbados.
