A young army cadet will take on the Great North Run in a bid to raise as much money as possible for Help for Heroes.
Charlotte Akam, 19, is to complete the course despite suffering from diabetes as she wants to do her bit for the charity, reports In-Cumbria.
The Whitehaven teenager has some experience of running long distances, having previously represented Cumbria and the north-west in cross country.
"A lot of friends and my younger brother are soldiers in the army so it only seemed right to support a charity that does so much for the men and women who serve," Ms Akam explained.
She went on to note that training has been hugely difficult in the run-up to the event, as work, studying and cadet commitments have all acted as a drain on her time.
The Great North Run will take place on September 15th and will once again see runners take to the streets of Newcastle.
