Amsterdam’s oldest prostitutes announce retirement

Two of Amsterdam's most known prostitutes are finally bringing the curtain down on their careers at the age of 70.

Louise and Martine Fokken have confirmed they are leaving the sex trade following 50 years at work, during which time they have slept with about 355,000 men between them.

Dubbed the oldest prostitutes in Amsterdam, the pair shot to fame last week when they starred in a documentary known as Meet The Fokkens.

Martine suggested there has been a drop in custom as she has grown older, adding just one elderly man remains a regular.

"I couldn't give him up. He's been coming to me for so long it's like going to church on a Sunday," she said.

She went on to note that she does not believe the legalisation of prostitution in Amsterdam in 2000 has resulted in improved conditions for the many girls who work the streets in the city.
