Looking for love on the internet could be more popular than ever as the UK still feels the pinch of the recession.

So single soldiers who are looking for that special someone may find that now is the best time to log online and find a potential partner.

New research from JupiterResearch shows that the lacklustre economy hasn’t affected the internet dating industry in a negative way, with it predicted to increase from $900 billion (£594.6 million) in 2007 to a staggering $1.9 billion by 2012, SanDiego.com reports.

And dating expert Lisa Purdum says the using the internet to find love has actually been boosted in popularity by the recession.

She explains: "We have noticed historically that when there is uncertainty in the world, people start to think about what’s really important. They take stock and feel that they don’t want to miss out on opportunities in life."

The Daily Break News recently advised that increasingly hectic work schedules and lack of human contact are making it difficult for people to find love so heading online could be the perfect option.
