Army penpals could find receiving letters brings them motivation and encouragement to do their best work.
Portsmouth FC manager Steve Cotterill has found this to be the case, after getting a number of letters of support from fans, the Portsmouth News reports.
The contents of the messages include expressions of gratitude and encouragement stating the boss has done a great job.
"Quite a few people have written in and I've received some real nice letters and real nice cards," Cotterill said.
According to the news source, the messages "meant the world to him" and he will now continue with his job feeling a lot more motivated.
Those who do strike up a penpal friendship could find this lasts for many years, as the Gold Coast Bulletin recently revealed a pair who started writing to each other back in 1950 are still corresponding, 61 years on.
The duo live in different countries, with one in the US and the other in Australia, but this has not stopped their friendship.
