Single soldiers and those who have come out of a marriage might find online dating is useful.
It can offer people the chance to meet a range of individuals who they might not encounter when dating in the traditional manner, such as by heading to a bar or club.
Ann Landi, a columnist for the Huffington Post, agrees this method could be ideal and says: "Anyone venturing into the post-marital realm of midlife dating invariably winds up on the web at some point."
She herself has had success with online dating, although she admits there can be "peaks and valleys", so people may be wise not to be disheartened if they fail to find love immediately.
Ms Landi reveals she has experienced a number of "rewarding relationships" thanks to the web and will continue to explore internet dating.
Singletons may be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Kieron Lavers and Emma Stout, who met online and are planning their wedding on April 29th, the BBC recently reported.
