Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, has shown his support for brave troops at a fundraiser, it has been reported.
According to City AM, Mr Johnson spoke of his appreciation for the armed forces at the Square Mile Salute charity banquet.
Held at the Guildhall, the event was aimed at encouraging those who work in the financial services sector to raise cash for Help for Heroes.
At the meal, thousands of pounds was raised through bidding wars, the publication explained.
A two-week internship at City AM went for £8,000 and such was its popularity that another placement also drew in the same amount of money.
The Square Mile Salute was launched by head chef at the Lanesborough hotel Paul Gayler after his son was injured in Afghanistan.
"It just brought home to me how important it is to support our boys," he told the publication.
Meanwhile, more than £1,000 was recently raised for Help for Heroes by members of Hopwood Hall Cadets, Rochdale Online reported.
