Single soldiers who are looking for love may be interested in recent comments that over-confidence is not advisable when it comes to online dating.
Corinne Innis of Penn Fleming Matchmaking Service in New York said she discourages clients from believing people have to accept them as they are, as this can be seen as arrogance.
Website dating services rely on initial attractions before two people meet up, so singletons should make sure they are presenting themselves at their best, she explained.
Ms Innis advised people to choose carefully when selecting a photo to use for matchmaking websites, or, if taking a new shot, to choose a stylish outfit and a setting with flattering lighting.
"We all have flaws and insecurities, but they don't fully tell our whole story," she added.
Further advice came from psychiatrist Catherine Birndorf recently, who told the McClatchy-Tribune News Service those who are unattached should be open to new things, such as online dating.
