British medics save gravely ill Afghan boy

The father of a six-year-old Afghan boy has thanked British medics and troops for saving his son’s life.

Rahmadullah was airlifted to the British-run hospital in Camp Bastion after his dad took him to a US base in Helmand where he was in agony with muscular spasms and a high temperature.

His dad Neknazar took him to Afghan doctors but they couldn’t do anything before British docs took a look at him and diagnosed him with tetanus.

After receiving treatment, little Rahmadullah is back on his feet and doing well, with his old man telling the Independent he owes his life to the good people at Camp Bastion.

"My son is happy now. The doctors and nurses have been fantastic. My son would have died if I had not brought him here, so, of course, I am very pleased," he said.

Royal Marine James King recently returned from a tour of Afghanistan to donate one of his kidneys to his three-year-old child.
