An Irish woman took her wedding band off to read the inscription this week, only to find that she'd been wearing someone else's ring for more than a decade.

The lady in question, a certain Marianne Crowley, got hitched to her hubby Flor back in 1997, with the pair getting the inside of their rings inscribed with the date of the wedding and their initials to commemorate the occasion.

So it was quite a shock to say the least when she took off her ring and asked her co-worker to read the inscription for her, only to find out that she'd been wearing a different band for as long as she can remember.

Instead of being inscribed with her initials and September 1997, the ring she took off in her place of work was inscribed with July 1993 and a completely different set of initials.

Quite how the mix-up happened is a mystery. Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Marianne explained that she has "never been apart from it", though she did once drop it while staying in a hotel.

"Even if it was the wedding ring that I dropped, what are the chances of picking up one that looks the exact same that would fit my finger?" the startled spouse said.

The Irish couple are now on a mission to find out who owns the ring they believed to be their own, and to see if she has their original.

However, since she knows nobody who got hitched in July of 1993, Marianne has admitted that the chances of doing so are very slim indeed,  so she may have to either get a new one completely or have her adopted one re-inscribed.ADNFCR-2867-ID-801797825-ADNFCR
