We often hear stories of unexpected items such as hairs, keys or even small rodents turning up as an unwelcome surprise in food packets and shopping deliveries.

These things are often due to inadequate checks and balances, and are thankfully very rare.

But one woman from Romania got a little more than she bargained for after making the very gruesome discovery of a severed lamb's head after buying meat from a butcher's.

Now granted, you would of course expect to find lamb if that is what you ordered, however, a decapitated bleeding head is a different matter altogether.

Elisa Darclee, 45 had popped down to get some ingredients for her lamb casserole, in order to make a nice meal for her husband.

Her husband had been in hospital at the time, after recovering from a hip replacement and was due to come home.

She had ordered a joint of lamb and indeed it was there – on top of the severed head.

In an interview published by the Metro newspaper, she explained: "It was like some horror film or that scene in the Godfather when the man wakes up next to the horse’s head.

"It was the most repulsive thing I have ever seen. And it even had it’s eyes in place that were staring at me."

Unfortunately, this is not the only grisly 'severed head' discovery to be made by unwitting shoppers.

In January, Zoe Butler hit the headlines after she opened a tin of Princes tuna to make her daughter's dinner, only to find a crab's head.

She complained to Princes who responded by asking her to send the tin and all of its contents back to them for investigation.

However, she explained: "I didn’t set out to get compensation and I don’t want a lifetime’s supply of tuna!”ADNFCR-2867-ID-801783023-ADNFCR
